What I'm About

The title of this blog, The Runners Run, is taken from a passage in the Bible that basically sums it up.

"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize?
Run in such a way as to get the prize."
-1 Corinthians 9:24

It is not about running.  It is about living.

As I was trying to choose a blog title, this verse jumped out at me.  It made sense to me that this should be the one because, as I'm finding out more and more everyday, running is such a metaphor for life!

We all know that in a race there can only be one winner (Kenyan or otherwise) so for us back-of-the-pack people, what really matters is how we run the race.  Our goals are different.  Winning is less of an issue for us.  We ultimately aim to run with purpose and to finish according to our training.  It is the same in life.  We, all of us, have something that drives us; something for which we aim to do it all "well".  We are all running/living for something.

My something:  A while back God touched my life and showed me that true grace and love found only in Jesus Christ.

Strong.  Unfailing.  Secure.

This is my spark.  The source from which I glean the energy and power to "run in such a way".  God's mercy and grace has been so great in my life!  This is the reality that affects everything I do and how I see and interact with the world -- my running included.

I'm not claiming to have reached some perfection; far from it.  I falter and fail all the time and, let's face it, I'm not even that good at running!  But, I have the assurance that no matter what happens out there, no matter what disappointments in life come or how much I fail at running, the joy of the Lord is my strength.  For this, I will always seek to praise God!
